P5 & Under Final 2004

Here are the results of theP5 & Under Final, played at Wester Hailes, Edinburgh on Sunday 23rd May 2004.

All 32 invitees had qualified through the various heats held throughout the country. A record number of 25 schools were represented, with the largest schools being Bishopton and West Kilbride (3 players each).

Champion : Kirill Mikhaylov, St Helen's, 4.5 / 5

2nd Stuart MacQueen, Bishopton,  4 / 5
3rd Ali Roy, St Cuthbert's/Carrick, 4 / 5
4th Jonathan Wright, Robert Gordons, 4 / 5
5th Calum Fraser McDonald, Parkhill, 4 / 5
6th Matthew Thomas, Kirkhill (Glasgow), 3.5 / 5

Tie breaks and indeed 2nd tie breaks had to be used for places 2 to 5, but all those involved should consider themselves as being 2nd equal. Top 6 received trophies, the others received a commemorative boxed medal.

As usual, 1st place went down to the wire to the last round when Kirill Mikhaylov drew with Stuart MacQueen (5th last year). This means the trophy returns to Glasgow after being held between the North / North East and Edinburgh for the past few years. Not only is Kirill the first un-graded player to win this event, he is also the first winner who did not win one of the heats.
