Quick Play Tournaments

The club run 3 quicker play tournaments, Rapid Play (Blitz) and Allegro and Handicap Allegro events.

Rapid Play

Current Holders (2005/2006) : Tied between Andrew & Calum MacQueen.

Played at the end of the chess year, the Rapid Play competition is played on a single night. Games are 5 minutes each blitz, and is usually played over 10 rounds.

Allegro Championship

Current Holders (2005/2006) :  Calum MacQueen & Neil Thomson

Played at the start of the chess year, the Allegro Cup competition is played on a single night. Games are 15 minutes each, and is usually played over 5 rounds.

Handicap Allegro Championship

Current Holder (2005/2006) : Daniel Thomas

Played at the start of the chess year, the Handicap Allegro Cup competition is played on a single night. Handicapping is done on a time basis, the further apart the grades of the 2 players, the more time the lower graded player gets and the less time the higher gets.

Olscot Trophy

Current Holder (2005/2006) : Fiona Petrie

The Olscot trophy is a competition set up to give members a competitive match every week, should they so desire. It is played over the entire season, with results from team matches played on a Tuesday counting towards it.

Championship, Mercury and AT Mays games do not count towards the Olscot.

By the very nature of the competition, the number of games played per person various enormously hence it is very much up in the air as to who will win it, usually though by the person who attends the most Tuesdays!

Brodie Cup

Current Holder (2002/2003) : Calum MacQueen

The Brodie Cup is the only knock-out event for the adults in the club. Using a handicaping system, which means the difference in grading between the players determines the time each player gets, the games can be very unpredictable!
